We Are Community Threads
Community Threads is a grassroots initiative using fashion to strengthen community, reduce waste, and make quality clothing accessible to all.
The clothing collected at our events continues to serve the community long after the event ends. Extra items are shared with unhoused neighbors through free pop-up “stores” and professional attire is donated to the Santa Monica College career closet to support students stepping into the workforce. Through these efforts, clothing stays in circulation and out of landfills while meeting real human needs with dignity and care.
Sustainability / Circular Economy:
We keep clothes out of landfills by keeping them circulating and in use within our community.
Clothes that are torn or stained are taken to the Santa Monica College Fashion Department so the fabric can be upcycled into new clothing.
What We Do
Community Threads operates under the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Earth Rights Institute, and all contributions are tax deductible, EIN 30-0029920.
Our events are supported by small donations at the door, as well as the generosity of sponsors, with no one turned away for financial reasons.
